Dear Friends,

Holy week reflection 3 of 3.

Betrayal of Jesus 3. Pilate and the crowd.

Read John 19: 13-16.

What a difference a few days make. On Palm Sunday they hail him as their King. By Friday they are baying for his blood. They go as far as saying the Emperor is their king.

So what changed?

The drip feeding of fake news from the religious authorities and the power of group think worked their magic. Pilate was a pawn in their game.

In the end, the crowd only really wanted a King or Saviour who did things the world's way not God's way. Hosanna, which means help or save, has been replaced by crucify. They have chosen the wrong King and declared death to God's ways of salvation because their expectations were not being met.

How do we react when Jesus doesn't meet our expectations?

When are we tempted to do things the world's way and not God's way?

"Lord for ourselves,
In living power re-make us.
Self on the cross and Christ upon the throne.
Past put behind us.
For the future take us.
Lord of our lives.
To live for Christ alone." (Timothy Dudley-Smith.
